About Urusei Yatsura
Urusei Yatsura, is one of Japan's most beloved anime/manga. The manga, which was written and drawn by one of the best female artists around: Takahashi Rumiko. Takahashi Rumiko began drawing Urusei Yatsura in the late 70's, and was published by Shonen Sunday Comics. The manga produced 34 volumes in a nine year period. Takahashi-sensei's manga became such a hit that an anime series was started in 1981 and it finished its run in 1986, the year that Lum the Forever(Movie 4) was released.
As with many of the things in Urusei Yatsura, it likes to play on puns. Even the name Urusei Yatsura is a pun, which stands for "obnoxious aliens". UY also likes to make fun of everything from ancient folklore to television personalities.
It is also hard to place UY under a certain category because it has the elements of many categories. In my opinion UY is a science-fiction/action/comedy/romance. The science-fiction, having tons of aliens, spaceships, and wacky devices. The action, having fights and parties that could actually kill you, and the fights between Ataru and Mendou. The comedy, having all that slapstick humor and all the outrageous love triangles. And finally the romance, Urusei Yatsura is famous for its love triangles and the romance of Lum and Ataru.
